The Humpty-Hump! 🐪 03/31/2021 C_K

Good morning all! I do hope the week has gone good so far for everyone!!! It's been a busy week for us so far and will probably stay that way depending on how much time Oldest Daughter and "R" spend here at the house. "R" will be arriving by train around midnight tomorrow night at a station roughly an hour away from the house. The hubby offered to pick him up but Oldest Daughter wouldn't agree to it being she knows that he has to work Friday... she does too which is why the hubby offered to be the one suffering lol. Little Man will be THRILLED to have him basically all to himself for several hours Friday lol. Little Man goes through a list every morning, asking where daddy is, where sissy is and "R" is included in that list every morning. He asks every morning when "R" is 'coming home' lol. You know someone is a good person when a 3 year old that normally takes weeks to get comfortable with someone starts climbing up in their la...

STORY TELLING SONGS

Image
For this week's Monday Music thread I was thinking of story telling songs. You know what I mean, like American Pie, Alice's Restaurant, or just about any of Harry Chapin's songs like Taxi, A Better Place to Be, or 30,000 Pounds of Bananas. So come join us with your favorite story telling songs, I posted three of my favorites below along with the invites. You might know some fun story telling songs I have missed I can add to my collection.

Good morning all! I do hope everyone has had a good week and that none of our group lives anywhere near the tornado outbreak yesterday. We don't have regular TV anymore and even if we did, I probably wouldn't have caught it since there was only a tiny little sliver of our state involved down around the North Carolina South Carolina line. I just happened to go to YouTube at just the right time and based on the location I use for my VPN it showed me straight away a massive outbreak of tornadoes across Alabama, Mississippi and other southeast states. I'll be on and off more than usual today though. My furniture is supposed to be delivered today!!! Me being the lazy ass I've been all week (lol), I still have to remove things from next to and behind my chair. Think I'll just throw it all in a huge tote until I decide to go through it. Everything that Little Man finds laying around seems to end up in my space which then gets tossed behind my chair, I imagine that 99% of...

German brewery pairs with bakers to use surplus beer

German brewery pairs with bakers to use surplus beer DUESSELDORF, Germany (AP) — With restaurants and bars all closed due to pandemic restrictions, a Duesseldorf brewery found itself with 6,000 liters (1,585 gallons) of its copper-colored “Altbier” unsold and nearing its expiry date.  But with trying times come novel solutions. Fuechschen Brewery brewery paired up with craft bakers already using leftover grains from the brewing process to produce loaves of “Treberbrot,” or “Spent Grain Bread.” “It would have been such a shame to just toss out such a tasty beer,” said Peter Koenig, whose family has run the brewery since 1908. “Then we came up with this idea to bake the bread with the beer, to leave out the water,” he said Tuesday. “I think it’s great that these two craft industries have come together like this.” About a dozen bakeries have been producing the Treberbrot since the start of the week, giving the added bonus of a bottle of Fuechschen’s Altbier, a regional specialty, for ...

Heading in to Hump-Day! 03/24/2021 C_K

Good morning everyone! It's that time of the week! Hump-Day!!! I hope everyone had a great weekend last weekend and that the first part of the week has gone good! Our weekend was fine, basically the same ol' same ol' and so far the week has been good. Yesterday evening was a little rough though. The hubby stopped yesterday evening to pick up his father's urn with ashes to bring him home. The hubby had told me not to rearrange the mantle yet as I had planned on doing so that the urn could be placed up there with the portrait the funeral home had done for us. He said he wasn't sure if he could handle it being in such plain view yet so to see if he could handle it, he placed the urn on top of one of the huge speakers next to the TV. He said it was a place that was already open and in his sight line so that he could decide on whether he wanted it to end up on the mantle. I told him that I'm open to whatever he wanted or needed and that if he wanted it somewhere th...

GOOD MUSIC MONDAY

Image
WHAT IS GOOD MUSIC? Not a big fan or rap or country, but Geri just loves country. Each their own I suppose. But whatever your taste, bring it on this lazy Monday. Where Geri and I live it is BEAUUUUUTIFL weather, but cloudy with hint of rain and snow by tonight. EH GAD! So we have been watching a lot of old movies lately to kill the time BUT listening to some good tunes as well. SO come on in and join the Monday Music club!

It's Finally Friday!!! 🎉🎉🎉 03/19/2021 C_K

Good morning everyone! It's Friday!!! I apologize for being later than normal posting but I've spent the morning working on my laptop. Between Windows and Google updating surprisingly more than once in the past week, I found some things that I wasn't too 'thrilled' about. Google decided to add a new 'reading' tab to my bookmarks bar and ummmmm, no! Don't screw with my bookmarks bar! LOL. I already have a section for items I want to read or that I've read and want to keep the link to lol. And either Google or Windows has added this new thing at the top of the Chrome window, some search tabs crap? I don't want nor need that! Can't find a way to remove or disable it yet either 😒. I don't care for Chrome, or Google in general for that matter so I use a different search engine but I've been trying to find a better alternative. The issue is it seems that Chrome is so far the only one that will I guess, update, for the lack of a better w...

15th century bowl found at yard sale sells for $722,000   15th century bowl found at yard sale sells for $722,000 HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — An exceptionally rare 15th century porcelain bowl made in China that somehow turned up at a Connecticut yard sale and sold for just $35 was auctioned off Wednesday for nearly $722,000. The small white bowl adorned with cobalt blue paintings of flowers and other designs — one of only seven such bowls known to exist in the world — was among a variety of Chinese works of art sold by Sotheby’s as part of its Asia Week events. The names of the seller and buyer were not disclosed. Sotheby’s had estimated the value of the artifact at $300,000 to $500,000. Wednesday’s auction included 15 bids, starting at $200,000 from someone online and ending at $580,000 from another person bidding by phone. The official purchase price, which included various fees, was $721,800. An antiques enthusiast came across the Ming Dynasty-era piece and thought it could be som...

It's Hump-Day!!! 🐪 03/17/2021 C_K

Hello and good morning! It's time to get things moving! Yes, that gif ^^^^^^^^^^ is an accurate depiction of me!!! I don't know if it has to do with the 'time change' or what but I haven't slept worth a crap in 3 or 4 nights now... UGH! Unfortunately, I have to leave my hibernation cave this afternoon lol. Gotta go look at couches I guess since the online descriptions of our local furniture store SUCK! And I guess that styles change with the times, but how hard should it be to find an over stuffed faux leather couch? I can't do 'real' leather because the dogs nails would have it shredded in a week and I'm not crazy about the plain fabric. Not to mention that almost all that I've looked at online have squared off arms with no padding... WTF?!!?? Who wants to rest their arm on or lean against fabric covered wood? I like big, fluffy and soft!!! Soft means comfy! The hubby surprised me though. He told me to not only look at couches but to pick a new...

Yay! It's Friday!!! 🎉🎵🎉 03/12/2021 C_K

Good morning everyone! While I would LOVE to still be sleeping, it's time to get this Friday rolling (although I do hope that Little Man decides to sleep late, I'm not ready for 'that' part of the day lol)! It seems that it is starting to warm up around my area. We hit 75 yesterday, hoping this early 'warm' weather doesn't mean a blistering summer... ugh! Hopefully the hubby will be able to pick up pops' ashes this evening. We'd have already had them but the company that makes/sells the urns screwed up and not only sent but had engraved the wrong colored urn. So of course it had to be sent back to get the correct one sent. I swear if it isn't one thing it's another.  Just like how we had hoped to have made a move already due to the state buying most of our yard but thanks to whatever excuse, over a year later, we're still waiting. They came out and did another appraisal since it had been so long then came back and made an offer that was...

Speed Bump Day!!! 😜 03/10/2021 C_K

Good morning all! How is everyone doing on this fine Wednesday? We're doing pretty good, Middle Daughter has the day off from school so right now I'm listening to her and Little Man play a Nascar game on the old Play Station... a game from 2005 lol. Damn games have come a LONG way since the old Atari days lmao. It takes me back to the first Nintendo we ever had, it was used lol. It was already at that stage where you had to use a clothes pin to hold the game cartridge down far enough so it would make contact lol. I remember sitting and playing Duck Hunt and Tetris for many hours with my dad. Oh what I wouldn't give to have a day of doing that again! We never 'moved up' from the original Nintendo although I was able to play newer versions at friend's houses lol. I was a teenager when my brother got married and had never played a Play Station until his wife got him one for his birthday lol. OMG him and my dad wore that thing out! It was amazing at just how much m...

Friday Fun Time!!! 🎆🎉🎆 03/05/2021 C_K

Yes!!! We made it to Friday!!! 💥 I do hope everyone has had a wonderful week! The hubby had a rough start going back to work Wednesday to say the least. One of the ladies he works with came out bawling and gave him a hug, said she was about to lose her dad too. By the end of the day, as they walked to the cars, she broke down and said that she'd gotten the call 20 minutes before walking out of work that her dad was gone. Then he decides to stop by the clothes shack where they get their uniforms from or replacement items like pants if they rip a pair while in a scuffle with an inmate. He walked in to the shack only to find his buddy that he wanted to say hi to wasn't there, he asked the officer that was in there and the hubby found out that his buddy had also lost his father a day or two before. Needless to say that he had a rough ride home. What are the odds that 3 people, working at the same place, all lose their fathers within 10 days of each other. 😢 We've had a dece...

What Day Is It? 👀🐪🐪 03/03/2021 C_K

Good morning all! I hope everyone is doing well this morning and has had a decent start to their week! Ours started off rather rough due to the incompetence of the hospice company. My father in law's body rested at the funeral home for over a week due to the hospice company's failure to check the stupid fax machine after knowing a patient had passed. It took several calls and they attempted to blame the funeral home but finally owned up they had screwed up and that the paperwork the funeral home faxed and had to have filled out by them before we could legally cremate my father in law, had been sitting on their unchecked fax machine for over 2 days. As you can tell, I'm still rather livid over the situation. Needless to say that they had a complaint filed against them with the BBB and I posted a negative review everywhere I could think of. I gave credit to their nurses that were 100% caring and professional but ripped the office personnel. If it isn't one thing it'...
